Bryan DeBruyn is a professional engineer and experienced team leader. His extensive energy consulting experience includes district energy feasibility studies, energy audits of existing buildings, and design assistance to minimize energy consumption. In addition to his strong management skills, Bryan has extensive testing/commissioning experience and has developed automated wear and damage sensing equipment to warn of impending problems, prevent equipment downtime, and facilitate maintenance scheduling. Bryan has developed training material and taught industry professionals and technicians in both the manufacturing field, and in academic institutions. Bryan is also proficient at developing software models to solve complex problems, and has experience in hydraulics, controls, electronics, structural, metal fatigue, and HVAC. As a member of the Green Energy and Fuel Cell Team at the University of Waterloo, Bryan’s main area of research was maximizing energy efficiency when integrating combined heat and power (cogeneration) units into buildings. In addition, he studied PEM fuel cell design, energy efficiency in processes, moisture in buildings, and building simulation, and performed detailed energy simulation and analysis for industry. Bryan recently successfully completed the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) program offered by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Bryan is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of B.C. and holds a Master of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Honours Co-op Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Waterloo.
